Samsung introduced the new generation of smartphones of the Galaxy A series, that is, the middle class. This year there will be three new phones (of the Ax4 generation), and the most demanding users will be interested in two of them: the Galaxy A34 and especially the A54.
The Galaxy A is Samsung’s best-selling phone, and in fact, it’s one of the best-selling phones of all time. The Galaxy A34 replaces last year’s A33, and the Galaxy A54 replaces the A53 model. A slightly different design, in particular, brought a different design of the camera lenses with only a thin metal round frame, and the aspect ratio has changed to 19.5: 9. The last generation was 20: 9. Both innovations are very similar to the current flagship Galaxy S23.
Samsung emphasizes the A54’s smaller display, higher brightness, better SoC, higher endurance, and better photo chip. According to Samsung, the higher-end Galaxy A models are indeed semi-premium devices (and this is even more true of the Galaxy A54 model), although there is actually a huge difference between the Galaxy A and Galaxy S.
In fact, the Galaxy A54 is no smaller
The Galaxy A54 has become slightly smaller compared to the previous generation, which will be especially appreciated by fans of compact devices – if there is no such thing. Instead of 6.6 inches in the A53 model, the new screen is only 6.4 inches, but the physical dimensions of the body are almost the same. Although the Newness is a millimeter lower, it is also a millimeter wider.
In short, Samsung has increased the bezels. The diagonal of the entire phone is only 0.01″ smaller. For those who want a compact Samsung, there is still the Galaxy S23 for them. On the other hand, the Galaxy A34 is generally larger compared to the previous generation. The screen has grown from 6.4 to 6.6 inches and the dimensions of the case have increased accordingly.
The display is still AMOLED. In the case of the Galaxy A34, its frequency has been increased to 120Hz, and the luminosity of both should be a quarter higher. A slight difference in design is the hole type for the front camera.
The back of the Galaxy A54 is covered with Gorilla Glass 5 and is glossy. Galaxy A34 has a matte polycarbonate back. In terms of material quality, glass would probably be better, but in general a matte finish would be more appropriate. The white and black variants capture most of the reflections of ambient light.
The camera has undergone partial changes. In particular, the fourth lens that provides depth of field has disappeared. According to Samsung, new models with better optical chips are no longer needed. The set thus includes the main camera, wide-angle lens and macro. No telephoto lens here.
The optical stabilization has been improved for the Galaxy A54, which can now handle a higher range of motion of 1.5 degrees. Both models got automatic night mode, when both phones recognize when to switch to a longer time.
The batteries of both models have remained the same, and their capacity is 5000 mAh. However, due to the use of more economical SoCs (Exynos 1380 at 5 nm and Dimensity 1080 at 6 nm), the endurance should increase slightly. Samsung claims 2 days with normal use. Charging is still only handled by 25W chargers, only the best S23+ and Ultra models can do more. According to the Koreans, this is for safety and battery life.
Plus, the Galaxy A54 has Wi-Fi 6 and an eSIM, so it can handle two phones and a microSD at the same time. The Galaxy A34 finally has Always-On functionality versus the A33, and both phones have a new vibration motor for a better haptic responsive feel.
Both phones will go on sale with Android 13 and One UI 5.1 superstructure. Samsung guarantees five years of updates and four new Android versions up to Android 17.
Both models will be available in two memory configurations and four colors. In addition, Galaxy A54 owners will receive a gift in the first two weeks after launch – the Galaxy Buds2 wireless headphones. These two weeks are a protection against the customer not returning the phone within 14 days after receiving the gift.

Samsung also introduced the basic Galaxy A14 in a version with and without 5G, but this cheap phone is not very interesting. Similarly, the Galaxy A04 was released at the end of last year. These models are intended to develop markets or operators.
If we go by the whole number gamut, the Galaxy A60 and A80 have no successors. The Galaxy A91 has finally been canceled by Samsung. There was also no A43 after the Galaxy A42. The Galaxy A24 and A74 are next in theory, but there is no more Galaxy A this year. And so Samsung has streamlined its entire A series of models, which initially included ten phones.
