Trenčany sausage with beans used to be a favorite meal for everyone who decided to spend the night in nature. It was enough to warm up the canned food in the ešus and dinner was ready. If you are feeling nostalgic for this dish, you can cook it at home, and believe me, it can taste so much better. We’ll give you some tips on how to make a great no-compromise meal instead of a jungle emergency.

  1. Soak the beans in cold water the day before. The next day, drain it, cover it with chicken stock, throw in the bay leaf and cook until tender.

  2. Heat the oil in a saucepan and fry the sliced ​​onion until it becomes translucent. Then add the finely chopped garlic and fry for another 2 minutes.

  3. Add the tomato puree and 1 teaspoon of the sugar and sauté for 3 minutes. Then sprinkle with plain flour, toast and finally add smoked paprika. It is enough to arrest him briefly, just to let him ring.

  4. Add the bean broth and stir well with a whisk. Then mix the chopped tomatoes from the can. Cover and cook over low heat for 10 minutes.

  5. Stir the baked beans and chopped sausage into the sauce. Season with salt and pepper and cook all together for a few minutes.

  6. Serve with freshly baked bread, sprinkled with chopped green onions or flat-leaf parsley.

The first type: If you like spicy foods, you can add a little cayenne pepper or ground chili pepper. Chopped tomatoes don’t belong in the original recipe, but they give it a twist. If you like, you can smooth the sauce with a little cream, but this is not necessary at all. The choice of sausage is up to you, you can choose fancy sausage, but we recommend high quality ground sausage or just sausage. The cooking process can be greatly accelerated if you use canned white beans.
