Cooking takes time and patience, which many of us often lack. For generations, people have provided helpful tips and advice on how to boil water faster. Some work and some don’t work at all. Discover the best ways to boil water efficiently and quickly.

Boiling in water is one of the first food preparation techniques every home cook learns. Thanks to this technology, the world of cooking pasta, various cereals, rice, potatoes and other dishes was opened. Despite the importance of cooking, it is full of myths and half-truths. However, these tips work great.

wide bowl

Boil water in a saucepan as wide as possible. The water will be shallow and more surface area will be exposed in the bottom of the pot, which is where the heat is greatest. This way, the water will boil faster. This technique is best suited for cutting smaller vegetables such as asparagus or carrots. You cannot cook potatoes in a shallow pond.

pot with lid

As soon as the water in the pot begins to heat up, it loses hot air in the room and does not do its job. So put a lid on the pot or pan, which will ensure the circulation of hot air in the enclosed space and help the water to heat up faster. Without a lid, the water reaches boiling point much more slowly.

Just enough water

Learn to use only as much water as you need. If you are preparing oatmeal or one egg, then you do not need to boil 2 liters of water. The less water you pour into the pot, the faster it will cook. Even your utility bill will thank you for this realization.

Salt does not help

This is a widespread superstition that is passed down from generation to generation. In fact, adding salt to water will not speed up its temperature rise. Quite the opposite, since the boiling point of salty water is higher than that of unsalted water. The bubbles that the salt produces after pouring it into the water may confuse you.

Hot water faucet

You don’t have to just pour cold tap water into the bowl. Turn the faucet to the other side and fill it with warm water. You can also help yourself to a kettle, which will be of great help while you are waiting for the boiling point.
